Yesterday I got back on my mountain bike for the first time in five weeks. The last time Ian, Juniper and I went to Fruita was the day that my intestinal issues began. Although the doctors have not been able to determine the cause of my pain, weakness, and bowel issues, they have been able to rule out a few things. Blood work, stool samples, a CT scan and a colonoscopy seemed to have ruled out parasites, Chrone’s Disease, colitis and cancer. I’m not sure what is left to find but I should be hearing today if the biopsies on samples taken from my colon have determined anything conclusive. Hopefully the doctor will learn something as I’m really hoping to avoid any more tests especially since it seems like every test for the GI tract involves not eating and drinking some nasty concoction.
Despite the tests and having my system completely cleaned out, I finally had enough energy to try a mountain bike ride again. With all the snow Colorado has been receiving, it was a nice break to spend the day in Fruita in the sun. It wasn’t hot, just a nice spring day with tacky and fun trails. Juniper and I took it easy while Ian went out riding first – going for a walk to collect rocks, look at some horses and playing in the dirt. I took it fairly easy but was really excited and relieved that I was able to pedal for just over two hours completing the Mary’s, Lion’s, Troy’s and Mack Ridge loops. I’m hoping to continue to feel well enough to get back training again. I’m sure a month completely off has been good for my body but I’m ready to train again and regain my fitness.
