Well, this race started out tough for Team Nike, and it doesn’t look like it’s gotten any easier. Today featured a long, nine-hour paddle and our team continued to lose time on the leaders, slipping all the way to 10th place. It’s hard to know exactly what’s going on by reading the updates on the official race website and watching the GPS, but I suspect the team is coping with an injury or some sickness.
Team SOLE is still kicking butt in 6th place and it looks like the race has come down to a battle for first between two Kiwi teams, Desert Islands and Team NZ. It’s awesome to see how well Desert Islands is doing…our good friend and pro mtn biker Jay Henry clearly held his own on the long paddle today.
There are still two days of racing left with 107km of trekking and biking through the Arabian desert before the finish in Abu Dhabi. It’ll be tough for Nike to make up much time here, but I know they’ll give it their all.
Thanks for you support!
I hope everyone is ok, keep us posted. Thanks Ian.
