I woke up yesterday to winter. It was raining when I went to bed but in the morning we had at least six inches of snow in the backyard and temperatures were in the teens.
This is a tough transition. On the one hand I need to be paddling, running and riding to train for the Abu Dhabi adventure race in little over a month. But with snow on the ground and everyone buzzing about the ski season, I’m also getting fired up for the rando racing season.
I’ve got some ambitious goals for this winter:
- compete in the COSMIC races and win the overall series title
- defend my title at the XTERRA Winter World Championships
- win either the co-ed or the women’s division of the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse (partner TBD)
- win the Aspen America’s Uphill, the Aspen Highlands Uphill and defend m title at the Highlands Inferno Race
Pretty soon the road to our house will have enough snow on it for a quick tour to the mailbox and back on my SkiTrabs. Juniper and I really enjoyed skiing the 3 miles to the bottom of the hill and then skinning home last winter. It’s great training to pull the Chariot and the kiddo back home and I’m getting psyched to get back on it.
Also, I want to congratulate the rest of Team Nike on their finish at the Adventure Racing World Championships. Mike Kloser, Monique Merrill, Chris Forne & Gordon Walker raced through extreme heat, sand dunes and rivers with no water to finish 2nd at Ecomotion. Great job!
Finally, check out some sweet photos from last years Abu Dhabi race by Dan Campbell here.
sari, you are an inspiration to all of us! dan’s photos are beautiful – looking forward to the ’08 race! enjoy training and kick some arse!!!
Wowzers, I can’t believe all the snow you have already! I’m jealous – can’t wait to get out on my XC skis soon. What else is there to look forward to, it’s winter! Enjoy…
