Ergo Skigo Baby

It’s been a long time since Ian and I had a weekend at home without a race, friends or family in town. So on Valentine’s Day we enjoyed a mellow morning with our favorite Swedish pancakes for breakfast and then loaded up for the short drive to Williams Peak (aka Willies) near Sunlight Mtn. We’ve only skied Willies once before, but it’s known to be a pretty mellow backcountry ski tour with virtually no avalanche danger. We figured it would a great place to take Juniper skiing.

It took us about 45 minutes to skin up. I was carrying Juniper in the Ergo Baby Carrier and she was asleep within 10 minutes. So, we put the hood up and she was snug and warm, despite the blustery, snowy conditions. The Ergo is awesome.

We stopped short of the peak, where it was a little less windy and transitioned for the downhill ski.

I was on my lightweight rando skis, so these turns aren't the prettiest, but Juniper didn't seem to mind. She yelled "weee" the whole way down.

Dad was a little late with the camera here, but I just caught SICK phonebook air. Juniper loved it.

On Sunday, we had some more family fun and took Juniper in the Chariot on a XC ski tour at Snowmass. I towed her up something called the Terminator, which was steep and punishing, but still a lot of fun.

I’m going to try and get in some more training this week in preparation for the Snowmass COSMIC race. This is my favorite course of all the COSMIC races; terrific terrain and a fun adventure skiing from Snowmass to Buttermilk. If you’ve ever wanted to try a rando race, this is the one to do!

I guess it’s a little ironic that the day Mom leaves for her big adventure race in Abu Dhabi, we get the biggest storm the Colorado High Country has seen in a long time. Since Wednesday, Aspen has gotten over three feet of snow. We’ve had at least two feet of snow at the house. And it’s still coming down….

But, that’s ok. Dad and I decided to go out and play! First, I had to get suited up to go outside. I kind of feel like Ralphie’s little brother, Randy in this get-up. “I can’t move my arms!”

Anyway, Dad put me in the Baby Bjorn and we skinned up the road from the house for about an hour. The rhythmic motion put me right to sleep. But then, Dad took the skins off the skis and we cruised back down to the house. I woke up for that and giggled the whole way down while Mr. Hank and Zulu chased us.

I miss Mom but so far, Dad and I are having fun! Today we’re going to pick up Grandma Mimi at the airport (if her plane can land) so she can help out while Mom is away racing.

It’s been almost 3 months since I was born and I have really grown up! I was so tiny (only 4lbs. 9 oz.) and now am almost 9 1/2 pounds and have already grown a few inches. I know most of you would be upset if you had doubled your weight, but for me it is a great milestone.

I am feeling very well as Mom & Dad and the doctors are figuring out my acid reflux and soy / dairy allergy. It is kind of a pain for Mom not to eat soy and dairy but this way I hopefully won’t have an allergy to them as I get older. Mom is just lucky that she hasn’t also had to eliminate wheat, eggs, citrus fruits, nuts, fish and berries – I’m not sure what she (and I) would live off of. I just tell Mom that this is the best thing for me right now and that’s all that really matters!

Mom and Dad have already taken me to do a lot of great things – Crested Butte for a weekend with the Bodenhemiers, Vail, Virginia, running races, hikes and the hot springs pool! I have really enjoyed travelling and have even behaved well for all of my trips in the car or plane. I figure that if I behave well, then Mom and Dad will take me lots of places. So far, the hot springs pool has been my favorite. I absolutely loved hanging out and floating in the warm water. Unfortuately Dad didn’t get to come with us so hopefully he and I can go again very soon!

Mom has been trying to get back in shape after being pregnant with me so she has been running in some trail races in the area. She’s definitely not as fast as she used to be but we have lots of fun running together while whe pushes me in the jogger and then Daddy and I go to chear her on at the races. We’re headed out first thing tomorrow for another in Aspen so we hope it goes well.
